  • ASTM A500 - Seamless steel pipe

  • Detailed introduction:

  • Use: Seamless steel pipe for structural use.

  • Steel type: Carbon steel.

  • Standard content: This standard applies to steel pipes used in buildings and other structures, mainly pipes produced by cold forming process, suitable for withstanding high-intensity pressure and mechanical loads.

  • Main uses:

  • Building structures, bridges, steel frames, etc.

  • Heavy machinery, industrial equipment.

  • Structural support, transportation frame.

  • The chemical composition of ASTM A500 steel pipes varies slightly depending on the grade. The main alloying elements include carbon, manganese, phosphorus and sulfur.

  • Among them, the carbon content is usually not more than 0.26% (0.26%), the manganese content is not more than 1.35% (1.35%), and the phosphorus and sulfur contents are controlled within 0.035% (0.035%).

  • If Type 3 steel pipes are used, a small amount of copper is allowed to be added, not exceeding 0.2% (0.20%), to improve corrosion resistance.

  • ASTM A500 standard steel pipes are divided into four grades: Grade A, Grade B, Grade C and Grade D, of which Grade B is the most common.

  • Different grades of steel pipes have different strength requirements:

  • The minimum yield strength of Grade A is 33 ksi, which is equivalent to about 228 MPa per square millimeter;

  • The minimum yield strength of Grade B is 46 ksi, which is about 317 MPa;

  • The yield strength of Grade C is increased to 50 ksi, which is about 345 MPa;

  • Grade D has the highest minimum yield strength of 58 ksi, which is about 400 MPa.

  • In terms of tensile strength, the minimum requirements of Grade B, C, and D are all above 400 MPa, which has good tensile properties.
